FROM PRESIDENT GREG LAWLOR'S DESK!! We're happy to announce that the 2001 membership has exceeded 650 members. What does that mean to the members. The ERGA Board has approved 12 tournaments for 2002! The purses will be enhanced as well as the trophies and the board welcome your participation. Additionally, the Men's Club has dozens of starting times for the regular Wednesday morning sweeps. Prizes for long drive, closest to the pin as well as low gross, and of course low net in all three flights. Come join us for fun golf. WE WILL HAVE A VACANCY ON THE MEN'S CLUB BOARD IN 2002! You may have noticed a new computer in the clubhouse. The computer does not have a keyboard, you simple touch, you don't have to push hard or punch, the big golf ball in the center of the screen and follow the directions on the screen. CONGRATULATIONS TO FRED RHODES AND ERICH HARROLD PICTURED BELOW: Representing the Encinitas Ranch Men's Club, they posted the lowest combined net score at this year's SCGA two ball Net Qualifying round held August 21st at Steele Canyon Golf Club. Their combined net score of 58 bested the closest competitors by 3 strokes and earned them a spot in the next round which will be played September 19-20 at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course in Santa Clarita. Go Get them guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


CONGRATULATIONS TO KEN VAN WIEREN WHO SET A NEW WEDNESDAY SWEEPS single day RECORD all \ available script. He low gross score of 79 (and this was his first round under 80) left him with a net 63. Then he took the long drive on number 12 and closest to the pin on number 11. His gross take home in script was $66. Good shooting Ken. Your picture will be in next month's issue.


On Wednesday, September 5th Rod Linville, our head pro posted a 77 in the BEAT THE PRO EVENT. DID YOU BEAT THE PRO?

Thanks to the following members who chaired tournaments this year: Fred Rhodes for the Best Three Balls; Jack Hyde for Medal Play; Alex Kyman & Bill Page for the Two Man Scramble; Bill Pultz for the Poinsetta Cup; Joe De Filippi for the SCGA Better Ball; and Chris Dreher and Dave Murphy for the Member/Guest, and Steve Jordan for August Stableford. Thank you for your hard work!


At the annual meeting in October we will set a date to discuss next year's tournaments. Our goal is improvement on past events and WE NEED YOUR INPUT!!!!!

WEDNESDAY SWEEPS; ONCE AGAIN, SOME OF YOU ARE POSTING SCORES FROM THE WRONG TEES: IF YOU'RE A 0 TO 9 HANDICAP, YOU MUST PLAY FROM THE BLUE TEES: IF YOU'RE A 10 HANDICAP OR ABOVE YOU CAN PLAY FROM THE BLUE TEES, BUT BE SURE TO MARK YOUR SCORE ON THE 'A' FLIGHT SHEET. A PLAYERS SHALL PLAY FROM THE BLUE TEES AND MARK THEIR SCORE ON THE 'A' FLIGHT SHEET.


The $5 entry fee is MANDATORY. This is to guarantee our Wednesday morning tee times. So be sure to put that $5 in the envelope.


The winner of this years Club Championship will advance to the SCGA Tournament of Club Champions at La Quinta on December 3, 2001.

The Club Championship will award prizes from First to Fourth Place in all flights.

The tournament schedule for the remainder of the year is as follows:


October 21st -- Four man scramble- chairman Peter Johnson
November 11- Pinehurst- chairman James Inouye
December 2- Match Play against par chairman David Balser


The four man scramble will be a shotgun start and followed by the annual meeting to select board members for the coming year and a BBQ after the meeting.


"A" flight gross and net players of any handicap will play from the blue tees. Prizes 1st thru 3rd in gross, and 1st thru 5th in net.

"B" and "C" flights Net. Players with handicaps of 10 or higher will play from the white tees. Teams will be separated equally between "B" and "C" flights. Prizes for 1st thru 5th in each flight.


CARD OFFS WILL DECIDE WINNERS IN ALL FLIGHTS.


There will be more information on the next tournaments in the next issue. So be sure to get your entry in early.

It's that time of the year!


The time is here to renew your membership for 2002. Memberships run for the calender year and this year
you must rejoin in the period from September to December 1st. For current members the cost is $65, but if
you don't renew during this time period, it will cost $85. Please fill out a new application so that we can
maintain our database accurately for club and SCGA mailings. So get that application filled out and sent in
before the deadline.
