This abbreviated December Newsletter is being sent to you early to insure that you aware of some upcoming tournaments as well as a critical deadline which will cost you money if you miss it. The board encourages you to review this newsletter carefully. In particular, note that the annual club dues are $20 less if you renew before the end of November. Also, take a good look at January's Tournament where two foursomes will win an all-expense paid overnight golf trip to Mesquite, Nevada, including transportation via private jet, room, meal allowance and green fees. So don't delay, take action today!

2002 CLUB MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

The Encinitas Ranch Men's Golf Club (ERMGC) is open to all male applicants, 18 years of age and older. The membership fee includes membership in the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) and a handicap index. All applicants, NEW and RENEWALS, must fill out this form completely every year. It is very important for us to keep our database current. If you have any questions, visit the Board of Directors page on the club's website and email the current Membership Chairman.

Format - Match Play Against Par is a single player event where your opponent is the PAR score for each hole.

Flights - There will be awards for Gross winners and Net winners. The number of flights and prize money will be determined by the total number of entries.

Scoring - Each player will record his gross and net score on the scorecard. Your net score will be based on your handicap. If you are a 7 handicap, for example, you will get to reduce your gross score by a stroke on the 7 most difficult holes, i.e. holes 1, 4, 7, 8, 13, 15, and 17. The third line on the scorecard will be for your cumulative MATCH PLAY score. For example, on hole number 1 you shot a gross score of 6. Mark a 6 in the gross box. Mark a 5 in the net box because you get a stroke for that hole. Mark a -1 in the match play box because you did not beat PAR for the hole which was a 4. You are now 1 down for the match. On hole number 2 you shoot a birdie for a gross score of 4. Mark 4 in the gross box. Mark a 4 in the net box because you don't get a stroke on that hole. Mark a - in the match play box. You are now even for the match. Your cumulative match play score will therefore be either a + or a - for the round. Unlike regular match play, however, you cannot close out your opponent. Picture this: It's Friday evening, January 25, 2002. You and your three golfing buddies are about to board your own private Schubach Aviation Executive Jet for a quick flight to the CasaBlanca Hotel and Casino in lovely Mesquite, Nevada where Deluxe Accommodations await you. After an evening of Relaxed Dining and maybe a little gambling, just to get the blood flowing, you awake to Breakfast and a spectacular Round of Golf at the 18-hole, 7,011 yard, championship, Cal Olson designed, CasaBlanca Golf Course. When you're done golfing, you grab a quick Bite of Lunch before it is time to re-board your Schubach Aviation Executive Jet for the return flight to Carlsbad. And . . . all of the expenses (except the gambling) have been paid.

With the help of Schubach Aviation and the CasaBlanca Resort, two foursomes in this tournament will win this fabulous trip. That's right! We are sending eight guys to Mesquite. The Low Gross Team and the Low Net Team. In addition, depending on the turnout, there will be regular slate of prizes as well.
