ERMGC PACE OF PLAY POLICY
Speedy Play Is Expected
The time par for Encinitas Ranch is 4 hours 20 minutes. To maintain your position on the course, play "ready golf" and be prepared to play when it is your turn. Play a provisional ball if your ball may be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds (rule272).
Your group will be considered out of position if you are: 1) behind the pace required to finish in 4 Hr 20 min, and 2) there is a gap between you and the group ahead.
Pace of Play Policy
A Player's Assistant or an official designated by the ERMGC will provide a warning if you are out of position, and will notify the pro shop that your group has been asked to close the gap. One of the PGA professionals on duty will be sent out to monitor your pace of play. If your pace does not improve, the Professional may require your group to discontinue your play of a hole, or skip a hole, and move to the next tee.
In this situation, all players in the group must record the gross score that would result in a NET BOGEY on the hole not completed.
Any group affected by this pace of play scoring adjustment must inform the official scorer of the circumstances on completion of the round.
In the past two months, the Club has struggled to maintain an acceptable pace of play during the Team Play and Sunday Golf Tournaments. In an effort to keep an enjoyable day at the golf course from turning into a 5-6 hour gridlocked experience, we are posting the Club's policy regarding pace of play and will be strictly enforcing it during Club events. This message is meant to inform and help create a more enjoyable playing experience for the entire field. It is imperative that all players make an effort to improve the pace of play during Men's Club events to preserve the allotted weekend tee times provided by the City. We appreciate your cooperation.
New Option for members over 65
ERMGC announces a NEW OPTION for Men’s Club members age 65 and over to elect to play in C Net Flight from the White regardless of their handicap index. The option is available for competition in Wednesday Sweeps and Weekend Tournaments. The option is designed to encourage senior members to enter club competitions from the white tees if they have felt disadvantaged by playing from course length from the green tees.
For example, under the previous system if your current handicap index was 14.0 you were placed in B Net Flight from the green tees. Now, you may elect to play in C Net flight from the white tees. Your course handicap will be calculated using the white tees course handicap chart.
To elect this option in Wednesday Sweeps, check the C Net flight box on the entry envelope and write SENIOR OPTION on the envelope. To elect this option in Weekend Tournament entries, write SENIOR OPTION in the comments section of the tournament entry online form.

2009 ERMGC Blind Draw Best 2 of 4 Better Ball Tournament
It is time for the Blind Draw Best 2 of 4 Better Ball Tournament. This was a popular tournament last year and it allows members to compete as a team with players from other flights.
All players will be placed into a pool of players based on handicaps. For example if we have 60 players, the top 15 handicaps will be in “Group A”, the next 15 will be in “Group B”, and so on. The teams will have a player from each group by selecting names from a hat. All teams will play from the Green Tees and will be a handicapped event. All players will play their own ball throughout the event and the best 2 of 4 net scores will be added up to make the team score for that hole.
The registration is individual as the teams will be determined by the blind draw.

16-2/0.5 Ball Overhanging Hole Is Lifted, Cleaned and Replaced; Ball Then Falls into Hole
Q. After an approach shot, a player's ball is overhanging the hole. The player walks up to the hole without unreasonable delay and notices that there is mud on the ball. The player marks the position of the ball and lifts it. He then cleans the ball and replaces it. The ball remains on the lip of the hole for about five seconds and then, as the player is preparing to tap it into the hole, the ball falls into the hole. What is the ruling?
A. Under Rule 16-2 , if a ball falls into the hole after it is deemed to be at rest, the player is deemed to have holed out with his last stroke and he shall add a penalty stroke to his score for the hole. In this case, when the player marked the position of the ball it must have been at rest. The ball must be considered to have been at rest when it was replaced; otherwise, it would have to be replaced again (Rule 20-3d).
Accordingly, the player is deemed to have holed out with his last stroke and must add a penalty stroke to his score for the hole.
