Our sponsor for May is:

Beginning Monday, May 13, and continuing for about 10 weeks Encinitas Ranch will be restoring bunkers throughout the course. All bunkers will receive new sand, drainage, and restoration of the original shaping. During this period, each of the original holes will be taken out of play for several days at a time. When a hole is out of play, original hole #11 will be split into 11A and 11B. Hole 11A will play approx. 100-120 yards as a par three and 11B will play approx. 374-426 yards as a par four. Course management has made a special effort to provide a fine golf experience for our enjoyment during the improvement process.
Depending on which hole is out of play for bunker restoration, the course will become a par 69, 70, or 71. To maintain the integrity of our handicaps, we must adopt special guidelines for posting of scores for rounds played at Encinitas Ranch.
Score Posting
Because the golf course has not been rated with holes #11A & #11B, a modified posting procedure will be implemented. The basis of this procedure will be to always post your score by deleting scores for holes 11A and 11B—replacing those scores with NET PAR on the holes that are out of play. Net par will be determined by the tees played and the handicap ranking of the holes out of play. Original hole #11 and one other hole will be out of play.
Example #1 – Playing from Blue tees with course handicap of 11:
• Hole #1 is out of play (par-four with handicap ranking of 15) – post score of 4 (not a stoke hole).
• Original hole #11 is out of play (par-five with handicap ranking of 10) – post score of 6 (stroke hole).
Example #2 – Playing from the Green tees with course handicap of 15:
• Hole #3 is out of play (par-five with handicap ranking of 5) – post score of 6 (stroke hole).
• Original hole #11 is out of play (par-five with handicap ranking of 10) – post score of 6 (stroke hole).
Note: Equitable Stroke Control will apply as always for posting purposes on all original holes actually played. The NET PAR scores will apply only to your posted scored, not to results in Men’s Club competitions.
Men’s Club Competitions
All Men’s Club events scheduled during the Bunker Restoration project are stroke play (not match play) competitions. We WILL NOT ADJUST INDEXES OR COURSE HANDICAPS during the renovation—even though we may be playing a course that is not par 72.
When you play an event like Wednesday Sweeps or the Combo where course handicaps are deducted from the total, record your gross scores for all holes actually played and your course handicap—FOR THE ORIGINAL COURSE—will be deducted from the total.
When you play a partner/team event like the SCGA Better Ball (June) or the Member-Guest (July), record the NET better ball of partners as the team score on all original holes actually played (these holes have handicap rankings). Hole 11B (a par-four) will be deemed to have a handicap ranking of 10 to determine better ball of partners. Record better GROSS score of partners on hole 11A—NO STROKES WILL BE AWARDED on this hole, regardless of course handicaps.
Additional Notes
• Special scorecards will be available each day to ensure that golf course is properly represented on the specific day of play.
• During the bunker restoration project, please feel free to inquire in the pro shop (Erik Johnson, Chris Locke, or Cory Chapman) or Men’s Club President (rbeckman@ermgc.org) if you have any questions or concerns. We are very excited that by this fall we will have a spectacular golf course product for all of us to enjoy.
• Throughout the period and into the fall, course maintenance will also continue the soil remediation program that will be vital to the continued improvement of the turf coverage on the course.

Two-man teams, 18 holes of stroke play, with the better net score of the partners to count as the team score on each hole. All flights will use handicaps based on June Current Index. The maximum allowable handicap differential between partners is five strokes. If the higher handicap of partners is more than five strokes greater than the lower handicap, the higher handicap will be reduced. The team with the best NET score total from the BLUE TEES will have the opportunity to represent ERMGC in the SCGA 4-Ball Tournament Qualifier in August.
