Tournament News

Tournament: 2014 SCGA Qualifier Tournament , June 22

Two-man teams, 18 holes of stroke play, with the better net score of the partners to count as the team score on each hole. All flights will use handicaps based on June Current Index. The maximum allowable handicap differential between partners is five strokes. If the higher handicap of partners is more than five strokes greater than the lower handicap, the higher handicap will be reduced. The team with the best NET score total from the BLUE TEES will have the opportunity to represent ERMGC in the SCGA 4-Ball Tournament Qualifier in August. During this tournament only, we have an extra flight, that being B+ flight. This is for the teams that want to qualify for the SCGA event. These teams will play from the Blue tees. Handicaps will be adjusted for the difference in tees. There will also be a B flight which will play form the usual green tees. The second place qualifying team can also represent the club but the fee for playing will be the responsibility of the second place team.
When you sign up please make sure that your partner is actually going to sign up. We have had issues in the past with partners not knowing they were involved.

The Rules Column

True / False Rules Quiz

Prepared by Robin Farran

(Take the test. Answers at the end of the newsletter )
These are all true or false questions.

1. A player takes relief for an embedded ball and drops the ball just within the one club-length of the nearest
point of relief, not nearer the hole. The player has proceeded properly.

2. A competitor took relief from a lateral water hazard, dropped a ball in a wrong place (not a serious breach)
and played the ball. The total penalty is three strokes.

3. When a ball is in motion after a stroke, a flagstick lying on the fringe may be lifted to prevent the ball from

4. A player properly plays a provisional ball. If the original ball is found in a terrible lie the player may deem the
original ball unplayable and continue play with the provisional ball.

5. A ball lands on the roof of the clubhouse, an obstruction, exact location unknown. For the purpose of taking
relief, the ball is deemed to lie at the spot where the ball last crossed the outermost limits of the obstruction.

6. Vegetation within an area marked as ground under repair interferes with the backswing for the player’s next
stroke. The ball lies through the green outside the GUR in a playable location. The player is entitled to relief.

7. Once a ball is declared lost it becomes a wrong ball even if found before the five-minute search period expires.

8. At any time, a player may play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, from where the original ball was last played.

9. A player’s ball lies in a water hazard. Prior to deciding whether to play the ball as it lies or take relief the
player moves a loose impediment in the hazard. If the player elects to take relief from the hazard there is no
penalty for moving the loose impediment.

10. Information on matters such as the location of a bunker or a water hazard is not advice.

11. Proceeding under Rule 26-1c, a player drops a ball well within the prescribed area for relief from a lateral
water hazard. As the ball rolls directly towards the red line marking the margin of the lateral water hazard,
a fellow-competitor picks up the ball before it reaches the red line. The fellow-competitor did not want the
player to lose his ball in the water. There is no penalty to the fellow-competitor since the fellow-competitor is

12. Player A’s hole-by-hole scores were correct on his score card as returned to the Committee. The total score
for the round recorded on the score card by Player A was lower than the correctly added hole-by-hole scores.
Player A is disqualified for turning in an incorrect score card.
